The Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted (AIDWYC) launched its speaker series with a fundraiser for Omar Khadr with his Canadian lawyer, Dennis Edney.
The event was held in the Arcadian Court in the Simpson Tower.
The South Asian Bar Association of Toronto hosted its 2010 annual gala and awards at Le Meridien King Edward Hotel.
The keynote speaker was The Honourable Ujjal Dosanjh, P.C., Q.C., M.P., former Attorney General and Premier of British Columbia.
Recipients of the awards this year included Poonam Puri, Raj Anand, and Emir Aly Crowne-Mohammed.
The Ontario Bar Association (OBA) hosted a reception for new calls to the bar. Special guests included Chief Justice Annemarie Bonkalo of the Ontario Court of Justice, Chief Justice Heather Smith of the Superior Court of Justice, and Hon. Chris Bentley, Attorney-General of Ontario.

The Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) held a fundraising gala and award ceremonies at the Hyatt Regency.
A portion of the proceeds was directed to Save the Children‘s efforts in Haiti.

The Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL), South Asian Bar Association – Toronto (SABA), and Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) hosted an event at Blaney McMurtry LLP on diversity and public appointments.
Debra Roberts, Deputy Chief of Staff from the Public Appointments Secretariat, spoke about the application system and how the process to get appointed to provincial boards or tribunals works.
The Public Appointments Secretariat (PAS) administers and processes the appointment of qualified individuals to over 600 provincial agencies boards and commissions in Ontario. They support the Premier in administering the public appointments process, and serve as the focal point for queries from agencies, ministries and the public regarding the appointments process.
The Public Appointments Secretariat is also the body responsible for appointing Justices of the Peace in Ontario, and several health-related tribunals.
The Ontario Bar Association (OBA) held its Fall meeting for the Student Division Executive to discuss various initiatives for the upcoming year.
Omar Ha-Redeye is an articling student representative for the area of Toronto for 2010-2011.
