Omar Ha-Redeye spoke to CTV National News on Amy Chua’s new book,The Triple Package: How Three Unlikely Traits Explain the Rise and Fall of Cultural Groups in America.

Chua proposes that cultural groups such as Jews, Indians, Chinese, Iranians, Lebanese-Americans, Nigerians, Cuban exiles and Mormons have a unique combination of superiority, inferiority and impulse control which helps them succeed better in American society.

Omar Ha-Redeye highlighted the risk of promoting these findings in that these same cultural groups could then take their feelings of cultural superiority and treat others in America in a negative way.

Omar3Chua is especially careful to emphasize that these traits are cultural and not racial or ethnic in nature,

The Triple Package has a dark underside too. Each of its elements carries distinctive pathologies; when taken to an extreme, they can have truly toxic effects. Should people strive for the Triple Package? Should America? Ultimately, the authors conclude that the Triple Package is a ladder that should be climbed and then kicked away, drawing on its power but breaking free from its constraints.
